In the beginning, Pragmatic Play was a small Swedish online software game developer. And for the first few years of its existence, it looked like it would stay that way. But now, the company has offices and studios around the world, including in Malta, the United Kingdom, Gibraltar, the Philippines, and even India.
So how did this company manage to go from a small developer of niche slots to a giant of the online gambling world, providing everything from bingo and scratch cards to Live Dealer games to online casinos around the world? Read on to find out.
Pragmatic Play started releasing games in 2015, but for the first three years, these didn’t get much attention from the wider gambling community. The main reason for this is that the company was producing low to medium volatility slots for risk-averse gamblers.
But then, in 2018, the management came to the realisation that this was probably not a very major market. So, with a lot of accompanying hype, they released two very high volatility games, Da Vinci's Treasure and Peking Luck. This turned out to be an extremely smart move as it put the company firmly on the map.
Once they learnt the lesson that being cautious is not the way to succeed as a game provider, the company started experimenting and released a series of high volatility games. Some of these, like Day of Dead, come packed full of bonus features and entertaining gameplay. Others concentrate on simple slot action with high rewards.
In 2019, the company launched a range of both bingo and Live Dealer games. Since then, it has continued to innovate and has picked up a number of awards as a result of its efforts. These include the Innovation in Mobile Award at the SBC Awards as well as the 2020 Best iGaming Software Supplier award by the Game Awards.
When it comes to games, not only do Pragmatic Play produce a huge range of different types of games, even within one category of these the range is also huge. But we won’t go into all of them now, so I’ll just tell you what my favourite Pragmatic Play slots are;
Day of Dead; this is a 5x3 slot with twenty fixed bonuses, a vast range of features, including Walking Wilds and respins. And if that's not enough, it comes with great animations and soundtrack.
John Hunter and the Book of Tut: John Hunter is the steely-eyed hero of Pragmatic’s own Book of series, and this 5x3 slot is a great example of the genre.
Sweet Bonanza: This 6x5 slot utilises a win-all-ways mechanism that can produce a top potential win of over 20,000 x the bet.
These are just my present favourite slots from this provider, but they have so much more to offer. For example, if Live Game Show type games are your thing, check out Boom City.
Pragmatic Play is one of the most versatile developers operating today. The company caters to all types of gamblers with both the games it produces and their variance. This can go from extremely low to extremely high, so whatever your tolerance to risk, Pragmatic Play has a game for you! But whatever type of game you play, always remember to set a loss limit for every session.
