Gonzo's Quest Megaways

Gonzo is back but with a more modern, attractive looking upgrade. Not only has the design of Red Tiger Gaming's iconic slot been given a makeover, but it's also had the Megaways mechanic applied. Everything is crisper, cleaner, more defined, and, of course, more significant, thanks to the Megaways. 

There are now 6 reels, with 2-7 symbols on each one on every spin, producing between 64 all the way up to 117,649 ways to win. The famous Spanish conquistador Gonzalo Pizarro y Alonso (1510 – 1548), Gonzo to his mates, still stands proudly beside the reels, darting out every now and then to test a gold coin with his teeth, among other things.

And this isn't the only recognisable element from the original slot. The initial Gonzo's Quest slot was among the first to feature the Avalanche, or cascading reels mechanism. This has become pretty much standard in Megaways games, and Gonzo's Quest Megaways is no exception. 

To join the adventurous conquistador on his quest for Inca gold will cost you between 0.10 and 4.00 per spin. This is a pretty narrow betting range, but with a possible top prize of 21,000 x the stake, and high volatility equaling high payouts, I can understand Red Tiger’s caution.

Most of the symbols will be familiar to anyone who has played the original. Familiar, but not exactly the same. The first difference is that the design has been given a polish, and they look better. The second is there is one new mask symbol at the top end of the paytable. This is now the most valuable symbol, worth 15 times the stake for six of a kind. This is followed by four more masks of lesser value, and four low-pay animist totems icons.

The question mark symbol is not the mystery symbol so common to other Megaways slots, but a Wild, just like the original game. This time round, it's what the developers are calling an Unbreakable Wild, meaning it sticks to the reels for cascades after being used to form a win. The Free Fall symbol is the Scatter and triggers the bonus rounds.

The Avalanche, a recurring feature in both the base game and Free Spins, removes all winning symbols from the reels and allows more to tumble down the reels, filling the empty positions. This frequently leads to more than one win from a spin. 

And these Avalanches don't just give a chance at more wins. With every Avalanche win, the multiplier increases by + 1 up to a maximum of + 5. This resets when the Avalanches end. 

One addition is the ground-shaking Earthquake feature. This triggers randomly during the base game, and during the tremors, all the low-paying symbols will crumble, and premium symbols fall into their place. 

The golden Free Fall Scatters award nine free spins for three anywhere on the grid, and this increases by 3 for each extra Scatter in view. The main bonus of the Free Spins is the increased Avalanche multiplier, which is set at x 3, x 6, x 9, and x 15. Scatters landing during this round will extend it without limit. And when the Free Spins finally end, the final Avalanche Multiplier is applied to the base game win that triggered them as well.

The original Gonzo’s Quest is one of the most popular slots of all time. And now that it’s been given a Megaways makeover by Red Tiger Gaming, it’s bigger, better and brighter than before.
